Over the last several years there has been a noticeable move from one universal oil in agricultural tractors (the STOU) to a dedicated engine oil and a dedicated "back-end" or universal tractor transmission oil (UTTO).
This has been due in part to the increase in the size and power of modern tractors engines.
John Deere has been the market leader in this area and many other OEMs such as Claas, New Holland and Renault have followed. Now an SHPD 15W40 (or even a 10W30) meeting ACEA E5 or E7 is the order of the day.
